Puerto Rico Charms for Charity - The 2026 Campaign
The Puerto Rico Charms for Charity campaign began in 2019, when I first started selling this design. I donate a portion from each Puerto Rico Island Charm necklace sold to local organizations & non-profits doing important work on the island. This year, our campaign supports Isla Mar's "In-School Program" that provides marine science education to public schools on the west side of the island.
With your help over the last 7 years, we’ve donated more than $3,000 to different organizations, including: Bosque Comunitario La Armonía, Fundación Surfrider Rincón, Rescate Playas Borinquen, HJR Reefscaping, Salvemos Playuela, Defensa de Animales PR, Mentes Puertorriqueñas en Acción, Rayito de Esperanza, PR Rise Up, and Brigada Solidaria del Oeste.
About Isla Mar & their In-School Program
Isla Mar Research Expeditions was the visionary creation of Drs. Chelsea and Evan Tuohy during their graduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez in 2015. Originating with the stewardship of university field courses, meticulously crafted and guided by the Tuohys themselves, the endeavor swiftly burgeoned. With a combined diving tenure exceeding four decades and a decade of course leadership, the Tuohys laid the foundation for Isla Mar’s expansion.
By 2024, Isla Mar had grown into a vibrant community of over 15 professional staff, a scientific research vessel, a spirited youth program, and a devoted team of citizen scientists. This growth, organically spurred by the pulse of the local community, culminated in Isla Mar’s transition to a 501(c)3 non-profit, a testament to its unwavering dedication to marine stewardship.
Today, Isla Mar continues to empower our community through conservation and education rooted in island life – their youth programs, community learning experiences, citizen science initiatives, and they offer scholarships that support local students pursuing island science. Their most recent project has been the creation of the In-School Program that provides marine science education to public schools around the west side of the island. Learn more about Isla Mar: WEB IG
A Note from Ariana: Why I Give Back
The little Caribbean island these charms represent inspired my jewelry-making journey – it’s where it all began. I was a teacher in Austin, TX before returning to the island of my parents. I found a lot of fulfillment working with students at the local public schools when I was back in Texas, but as a jeweler living in Puerto Rico, I had to find other ways of giving back, which I’ve been able to do through the sale of my jewelry!
